About Us

The International and Heritage Languages Association (IHLA) is pleased to welcome you to its website.  We are based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and we currently serve language community schools in the province of Alberta, north of Red Deer.

This website is full of resources, links and available professional development opportunities and it shows what our organization is all about. Home page to our member schools, it is the central information hub about the organization, its history, resources and active engagement in the community and the teaching and learning of international and heritage languages at the community level.

12th Annual Mother Language Day

Join us this year in celebrating our 12th annual Mother Language Day. It is a celebration of languages, cultures, and education. This year we have students from 17 different heritage language schools performing and 21 schools displaying their works. We are also honored to welcome the Minister of Culture - Maurine Kubinec, Mayor of Edmonton - Don Iveson, Councillor Amarjeet Sohi, and Professor Olenka Bilash to our celebration. Everyone is welcome to attend and join in the celebrations. The event is free.

The Mother Language Day is held in the Edmonton Italian Culture Center at 14230 - 133 Ave, on February 21st at 1:00 PM.
