IHLA has worked for forty years to promote and support students, families, teachers, schools and communities with language learning and pluralingualism.


Its many successes include awards and scholarships, professional development workshops for teachers, conferences, networking opportunities, financial support (when possible), and advocacy.

Did you know that in 2015 our mayor, Don Iveson, declared February 21 International Mother Language Day at IHLA's annual Mother Language Day celebration?

We have exciting events planned for the 2017/2018 school year. These include our annual Mother Language Day Celebration and book, principals' meetings, teachers' professional development sessions, mentorship programs, new book study project for teachers and more!


Come and celebrate our 15th Annual Mother Language Day on February 24, 2018. Our theme this year is Two Cultures Together!
