International & Heritage Languages Association

The CPLI-Italian Language School was borne out of a community effort to encourage the learning of a second language as early as possible. In the Italian community of Edmonton, this has been evident with the Societá Dante Alighieri School and the Italian as a Second Language Program in the Edmonton Catholic School District.

We opened our school doors in September 2008 with a class of 6 students. This Fall 2016/2017 we are happy and proud to introduce our class of 47 students, attending either AM or PM class sessions.  We are located at St. Philip Elementary School where there is an Italian as a Second Language program. What is different about the CPLI-Italian Language School  is that the program is offered  Monday through Friday (AM & PM). Our program is created for children pre-K to Grade 2. Children are exposed to Italian language the complete half day they are at school.  This means that children are learning skills that will assist in their continued learning for school readiness and in the case of our older students, in line with their grade level curriculum in Italian (and English). This year we have a class of 13 students who attend our Thursday PM program for formal grade levels 1-2.
